When reflecting back on the reason(s) why Bill and Lynda Keller decided to start a fund with the Community Foundation, the Quincy couple often referred to the proverb - ‘It’s better to give than to receive.’
“We come from such a caring community and we want to continue and be a part of that through starting the Bill & Lynda Keller Fund at the Community Foundation,” said Lynda.
The concept of the Foundation and endowment is nothing new to the Kellers. In fact, Bill Keller served as one of the Community Foundation’s founding board members from 1997 – 2002 and served a second term on the board from 2016-2018. During that time, he also served as Chairman of the Foundation’s Professional Advisors Council from 2016-2019.
“I’m retired now but during my time as an attorney, some of my clients were concerned about the future of organizations,” said Bill. “Someone would want to give to a certain cause, but they would start to question the organization’s sustainability. I’ve seen the Community Foundation operate long enough that I feel certain that the board and staff are always going to be conscious of who’s on the board and their experiences. I know they will continue to uphold the values of each donor’s intentions, including ours.”
The Keller’s intention with their fund is to support youth ages 0 – 18 in Quincy and Adams County, IL; with a preference for those with disabilities and from low-income families.
“We have been a part of short-term mission work internationally for a few years. We’ve seen kids and families who have so little be very appreciative and have such strong faith,” said Lynda. “Putting a smile on somebody’s face and helping your neighbor is the best reward. And, we want to continue to show our family and others that actions matter and more importantly, kind acts make a difference.”
