From 1929 to today, Hansen Spear Funeral Home has been honored to serve the families of Quincy and its surrounding communities. Beginning in the 1920’s, Walter and Helene Hansen set out to support their neighbors during a very difficult time in American history. Their son-in-law, George H. Spear, joined in 1955, and today, Hansen-Spear Funeral Home stretches across four generations of family and staff.
“Not all funeral homes today are family owned, and we believe we serve families best because we are a family,” said Funeral Director Will Spear. “Our values reflect the legacy Walter and Helene began nine decades ago, serving families in our community in any way possible.”
In late 2021, Will and fellow funeral director Brian Durante decided to start the Hansen Spear Funeral Home Endowment with the Community Foundation as a way to continue their commitment to the community that extends far beyond the funeral home doors. The fund will serve as an unrestricted endowment, which will go towards supporting a wide variety of needs and opportunities as they emerge.
“Every member of our staff has their own passions as it pertains to local non-profit groups,” said Durante. “With this endowment being unrestricted, it’s a way to honor each of those passions while giving back to the area that has helped build our funeral home into what it is today.”
The idea of ‘forever’ is visionary, but that’s exactly what an endowment is. The Hansen Spear Funeral Home Endowment will continue to enhance the quality of life throughout the region, forever.
