For the Eatons, giving back is a family affair. Two endowment funds bear the Eaton family name at the Community Foundation.
The Harry Channon Eaton Family Endowment, established by Harry ‘Bo’ and Jan Eaton, is an unrestricted endowment. The Noma Meyers Eaton Fund, established as a memorial by friends and family, supports art and education.
The Harry Channon Eaton Family Endowment supports programs, projects, and grants through the Community Foundation. As an unrestricted endowment, it allows the Community Foundation to respond to needs in arts and culture, community betterment, education, health, and human services throughout the region.
Bo, as he was commonly known, did not want the fund to be directive because he realized that it is not always possible to know or to predict where the money can be put to the best use.
“We wanted the fund to be a broad crutch for whatever areas need help,” he said.
At the time they established their fund, Bo and Jan had three children, all of Quincy, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Bo and Jan hoped the fund will inspire future Eaton generations to give back to the community. “Our family can continue to contribute to this fund,” Bo said.
