Community involvement is nothing new for Jerry and Linley Bartell, who have helped out with various organizations over the years such as Toys for Tots, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Kidzpacks, and food pantries across West Central Illinois. While participating in several acts of "giving back," the Bartell's began to notice the ever growing needs of underprivileged children in both Adams and Hancock Counties.
"Children are our future and we felt we should provide the resources they need," said Jerry and Linley Bartell. " The establishment of an endowment fund with the Community Foundation is our way of trying to meet these needs going forward."
Jerry was able to see first-hand the impacts the Community Foundation and its funds have had on the communities it serves during his time on the Community Foundation Board of Directors from 2003 to 2008.
"We have seen how the Foundation has grown and helped so many people and organizations, so we felt that this was the best avenue for us to establish a fund," said Jerry.
By partnering with the Community Foundation, the Bartell's will have a front-row seat to watch the continued growth of the Foundation while enjoying the retired life. Jerry retired in 2009 from a 42-year banking career with roots in both Adams and Hancock County, while Linley was a stay-at-home mother and full-time volunteer. They enjoy traveling and have been fortunate to visit more than forty countries and counting, with New Zealand being their more frequented country as it's Linley's birthplace. However, West Central Illinois and the children who call it home will continue to hold a special place in the Bartell's heart.
"We expect that by annually adding to this Endowment Fund, area children will reap the benefits for years to come."
