Each of us can be a philanthropist. This was Frederick Goff’s belief when he created the first Community Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914.
A group of St. Francis Solanus Elementary School graduates embraced Goff’s philosophy by deciding to support the school that had been instrumental in their formative years. For several years, they held “The Mike” – a very successful fundraiser. From that event, they made a donation to the school and sent the remainder of their fundraising proceeds to the Community Foundation for the Mike Mason Fund for St. Francis School.
Since the fund is endowed, the principal remains intact with earnings used to assist St. Francis School. When added to other individual donations, honor and memorial contributions, those gifts ensure a permanent source of support for the educational needs of future St. Francis students.
